Bosler, a ghost town located north of Laramie, was by-passed long ago, leaving it to wither in the sometimes-fierce Wyoming prairie winds. It began as a rail shipping site for the businessman, Frank Bosler. A post office was later added as were two “hotel” facilities, a library and a school. The 1940 census noted 264 citizens, and the school was in use until around 1980. Hints of its past are seen in the abandoned school, burned out buildings, junkyard spaces with abandoned cars and house trailers, and ancient wood structures that served as overnight accommodations for travelers. The four-laning of US264 left almost no frontage space, and the I-80 bypass guaranteed the town’s death. The last business in Bosler was Doc’s Western Village. Jalan Crossland memorialized Bosler in song with his humorous composition named for this now-deceased relic. The following images were processed in a vintage style in keeping with the condition of Bosler.
